Jayne tried to smile, but it was a weak one at best and clearly forced, his eyes giving away his true feelings about it.
“It’s hard not to,” he sighed, swallowing a lump of emotion in his throat. “It’s just that I know all too well how it feels to watch people you love and care about die, and I don’t want to be the reason you have to go through that.”
,He leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, trying to silence the pain for even a moment.
“I doubt you’ll be gone forever. People that end up with my family usually get to come back. Not the exact same, but I don’t think we’ll be apart forever.”
